Is Pocketnote free to join as a tutor?
Yes. It is free to join Pocketnote and complete your own public profile.
Are the sessions online or in-person?
Either! It’s up to you to decide what works best for you. We encourage you to keep in mind that many parents prefer in-person sessions, so by offering both options, you’ll increase your likelihood of receiving session requests.
Where should in-person sessions take place?
We recommend that in-person sessions are conducted at the student’s home, or in a public place (such as a library or University campus). Tutors should never conduct sessions at their own home or in a place that is not within view of a parent/guardian or responsible adult.
How much do I get paid per session?
You set your own rate - one of the perks of joining Pocketnote! We charge a Service Fee of 15%, which is the lowest on the market. The Service Fee is automatically deducted as part of the payment process, with the remainder transferred directly to your nominated account via Stripe. This ensures hassle-free payments!
What if the student and I agree on a different rate?
You have the flexibility to negotiate rates for any of your sessions. When a student requests a session, a “Custom Rate” field will appear. If you and the student agree on a different rate, instruct the student to enter the agreed rate in the “Custom Rate” field at the time of requesting the session. This will ensure the correct amount is processed at the time of payment.
When do I get paid?
Payments are processed automatically at the end of a session, via Stripe. As part of the account creation process, you’ll need to provide your bank details for payment. This ensures that payment for your session is automatically forwarded to your account (minus the applicable Service Fee). You can expect funds to arrive in your account within 2-3 business days.
How do I accept a session?
All session requests will appear under the “Sessions” tab in your dashboard - you just need to click “Approve”. You will also receive an email notification when a session is requested, and a reminder 48hrs prior to the session start time.
Can I take payment directly?
No, this is a breach of the Tutor Agreement and our Terms of Service. If it is suspected that you accepted payment outside of the Pocketnote platform, your account may be suspended, terminated or subject to other action.
