Everything Tutors Need to Know

Whether you’re an experienced educator or just getting started, our FAQs explain what you can expect as a tutor with Pocketnote. Still got questions? Reach out to [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.

Do I need previous tutoring experience?

Not necessarily. Previous tutoring and mentoring experience is always highly regarded, but we're just as interested in your passion and motivation as we are in your resume. If you've got a knack for explaining things clearly and genuinely enjoy helping others improve, we'd like to hear from you. If your application is successful, you'll be matched appropriately to your level of experience.

What do I need to get started?

Formally, you'll need your Working With Children Check (WWCC) and an ABN, or be in the process of obtaining them - these are non-negotiable. You'll be asked to provide your relevant experience, education and qualifications, as well as a bit of information about your personality and teaching style.

We'll guide you through each step of the process, from application, to onboarding, to starting sessions with your first student!

Can I choose which students I tutor?

If we've identified you as a great match for a student, we'll contact you first to discuss the details and confirm that you're comfortable with the fit. You will always have the option to accept or decline new student offers.

Is there a minimum commitment?

We ask that tutors have the availability and capacity to commit to their students for at least 2 school terms. We do understand that circumstances can change at short notice, but we work hard to uphold stability and consistency for our families to provide the best possible learning support. Families are counting on their tutors for regular support, and an ongoing commitment minimises potential disruption.

Can I tutor in-home and online, or just one?

Yes, you have the option to offer in-person, online or both. Please keep in mind that the majority of our families prefer in-person tutoring, so offering this service will improve your likelihood of being matched with new students.

How much do tutors get paid?

Our rates start from $40 per hour for in-person sessions, and from $35 for online sessions. We also pay superannuation in addition to the hourly rate.

What happens during school holidays?

This is totally flexible and can be agreed between you and your students. Some families like to maintain sessions over school holidays, some like to take a break. Whatever is agreed, you'll just need to let us know in advance.
