At Pocketnote, we do the work to match you with students based on your teaching style and approach, as well as your chosen subjects and availability. We believe that the relationship is critical for meaningful progress, so it’s important to us that we match effectively.
What you can expect:
Students matched for you – No pitching, no social media group posts, no profile optimisation to compete with other tutors. We matched based on your approach, subjects and availability, and we always discuss potential matches with you first. It’s important to us that you enjoy tutoring each of the students assigned to you.
Flexible scheduling – You determine your availability and your student load capacity. We work with you to schedule around it. Sessions can be in-home or online, during mornings, afternoons, evenings, holidays and weekends.
Reliable pay, with superannuation – Competitive hourly rates, plus superannuation paid in addition. All handled with a simple process through your tutor portal. Payment is processed on the same day every week, so you know exactly when to expect it.
Ongoing support – From onboarding, to your first session and beyond, we’re here to support you. You’ll always have a point of contact and regular check-ins, and we love hearing feedback from our tutors, to help us improve and give more to our tutor community.

What we’re looking for:
Our tutor network is diverse, including university students, recent graduates, qualified teachers and career tutors – a community of individuals at all stages of their careers. What matters most to us isn’t your ATAR. It’s your ability to connect with students and parents, explain things clearly and show up consistently for reliable support.
We provide tutoring across all year levels, with the strongest demand in Maths, English, Science and Business subjects.
To get started, you’ll need:
- A current Working With Children Check (WWCC), or be in the process of obtaining one
- An ABN, or be willing to obtain one
- The ability to commit to students for at least 2 full school terms
- Your own transport, if providing in-person sessions
- A genuine interest in student growth and development, not just academic outcomes
You can choose whether you provide in-home or online sessions (or both). We receive particularly high demand from families for in-person sessions, so if you’re able to provide in-person sessions, this is highly regarded.
How it works:
Submit your application – Tell us a bit about yourself, your experience, subjects, availability, and what you bring to your sessions (beyond the curriculum).
We review your application – We take time to understand who you are and how you work. If you seem like a good fit, we’ll reach out to chat.
Onboarding – We’ll walk you through everything: setting up your tutor portal, how sessions work, what families expect, how you’ll get paid.
Accept your first student – We’ll reach out to you to discuss each student, to make sure you’re comfortable with the match before sessions are scheduled. You always have the right to accept or decline.
Build something meaningful – Consistent relationships with students is where real impact happens. The tutors who thrive with us are the ones who commit long-term and have a genuine passion for helping students build confidence and learning skills.
